Education programme "Toiletised World" increases impact

Date

The development education programme "Toiletised World" has been successfully implemented in Berlin schools for 10 years now and has already reached over 5,000 pupils during this time. Now it has grown: With two newly developed training formats, "Toiletised learning in class" and "Development Education: Global Sanitation and Hygiene, teachers, educators and company employees can now also become multipliers.

In the course of the training courses, the participants learn interesting knowledge about the global sanitation and hygiene crisis as well as pedagogical methods that they can use in lessons for pupils of different age groups. The training encourages and empowers the newly selected multipliers to become involved, for example, in corporate communications or on the occasion of relevant world days (e.g. World Toilet Day, World Human Rights Day) in the media or at schools in their vicinity.

Following on from the nationwide school competition developed by the GTO "Toiletten Machen Schule", training courses were held together with the three winning schools in Saarbrücken, Remscheid and Berlin in order to further expand the commitment initiated by the competition. In this way, even more schools in the respective region could be reached and sensitised to the topic of "water, sanitation and hygiene" in the sense of education for sustainable development.

The employees of Berliner Wasserbetriebe (Berlin) would like to include the impressions from the training in their plant tours for school classes and adults, thus illustrating the global footprint in the world of water. The CWS team (Frankfurt) would like to use the training courses to incorporate the global perspective into their commitment, especially in the area of day care centres for children, thus creating added social value.

The project is co-funded by ENGAGEMENT GLOBAL with funds from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the Protestant Church Development Service.
