Compendium of Solid Waste Management published
At the Emergency Environmental Health Forum in Geneva on May 20, we officially presented the "Compendium of Solid Waste Management (SWM) in Humanitarian Contexts" and the associated online platform to the public.
The SWM Compendium - the fourth in a series of WASH compendiums for emergencies - provides a sector-tailored and structured overview of available SWM technology options along the SWM service chain. It also highlights all other relevant aspects that need to be in place for effective household solid waste management in humanitarian situations. This publication supports SWM planning, implementation and decision-making. It aims to bring about a change in the sector's approach to the still neglected area of municipal solid waste management and contribute to its mainstreaming.
The compendium was developed in collaboration with Global WASH Cluster partners, Eawag, IFRC and the German WASH Network. More than 50 experts from around 30 organizations, institutions and networks worldwide were involved in this collaboration.
It can be ordered as a print version at info[at]washnet.de, it can be downloaded as a PDF version and it is available as part of the Emergency WASH Knowledge Portal.
